Bug Description

When I set up my modem, I put in /dev/ttySL0 as my modem as I was seeing if the
Smart Link drivers would work.
After this didn't work, I got the Conexant HSF modem driver installed and
working. I changed the connection to
/dev/ttySHSF0 in pppconnfig, however, the system ignored the change and still
tried using /dev/ttySL0 to connect.

I cannot reproduce this. Are you sure you're modifying a current connection,
and not creating a new one? Please send the exact steps you used. Did
/dev/ttySHSF0 exist when you tried to modify the connection?

I created a connection for which the /dev node didn't exist currently. Then I
went in and tried to change it to
something that does exist.

Can you please tell me exactly which options you took at which screen, starting
from when you started pppconfig? I cannot reproduce it here, so every bit of
information I can get to track down the problem will help.

I did the following:
1) Create a new connection (w/ pppconfig, use sudo pppconfig (enter a
non-existing modem device, like /dev/ttyabcdefg for example, It doesn't have to
be a smartlink device)
2) Save the connection (use whatever settings you want for modem except for /dev
device)
3) Quit pppconfig, and start it again (using sudo pppconfig)
4) Select the connection we created
5) Go to the modem port setting (which will be blank for some reason), and try
to change it to an existing port.
6) Save this and quit
7) Try to start the connection with sudo pon name_of_connection

OK, I can emulate this now. I just can't find where in pppconfig it checks for
the device's existence or otherwise; I'll keep poking at it.
