2008-12-10 04:44:47 Gilbert Dion description Until I upgraded to 8.10, I was able to boot on backups made by bubakup. Now it won't boot. I have the message: "Gave up waiting for root device... ". Tried on 2 different machines with no success. Until I upgraded to 8.10, I was able to boot on backups made by bubakup. Now it won't boot. I have the message: "Gave up waiting for root device... ". Tried on 2 different machines with no success. UPDATE Before I upgraded to 8.10, I could easily create a bootable backup of my system, in case I did something wrong (although I'M used to computers, I'm kind of new to linux, so I experiment with it and everything: that's why I need to rely on backups.) But since I installed 8.10, the backups I create won't boot. When I try to, I get kicked to some (initramfs) prompt after the following message is displayed (increasing the rootdelay= count in menu.lst wont change a thing): Gave up waiting for root device. Common problems: - Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline) - Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?) - Check root- (did the system wait for the right device?) - Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev) ALERT! does not exist. Dropping to a shell! Busybox v1.10.2 (Ubuntu 1:1.10.2-1ubuntu6) built-in shell (ash) Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands. Hope this helps!
