Bug Description

When clicking on the bt-connect icon in Ubuntugnome 13.04 there is no response. I have re-installed it but to no avail in Gnome 3.8. It was working in the earlier version of Gnome.

Thank you for your time to report this. Unfortunately I have no access to a GNOME 3.8 system so I can not further test this here. The application indicator extension may still be incomplete in 3.8.

There are plans to move bt-autoconnect from gtk2 to gtk3 in the next release. This may help for better integration with GNOME shell too.

There is GTK3 based bt-autoconnect 1.0.0 out now. Can you please give us feedback whether this solved your issue?

I have uninstalled the earlier version and then installed the new one. I'm
afraid I am still not seeing the window when I click on the icon. Running
it in the terminal initiates the notification dock and I can click on the
instructions there.

That's weird. Just to make clear what you mean with "icon":

Whenever you start bt-autoconnect from the .desktop file (i.e. from its location in /usr/share/applications or from the "activities" menu) you can't access the application indicator's menu but when your run it from terminal with "bt-autoconnect" it works fine?

This should not make a difference as the .desktop file does nothing else but calling /usr/bin/bt-autoconnect script which in turn runs "python /usr/share/bt-autoconnect/bt-autoconnect.py".

Is this different behaviour when running "python bt-autoconnect.py" from a custom installation path?

Here on GNOME 3.6 all is as expected.

Thanks for getting back to me. I click on the bt-autoconnect icon and
nothing happens, no window appears. If I then go to the notification panel
in this Ubuntu Gnome 13.04 I see your icon which then offers the 'show
window' etc. I can then work at it from there. But the problem is that your
window does not appear when I initially click on your icon in the
applications panel.
Also can I ask you another question. When the application starts from start
up the volume is always at a maximum, despite me saving the the settings
for the volume to be at say 60% it always reverts to 100% at start up.
Cheers
Craig

bt-autoconnect is designed to only show the application indicator but not
the program window after we had set it up to run from autostart
applications. The rationale behind this is to avoid the application window
to pop up every time we log in. You can test this by unticking the
autostart option. It should however be selectable from the panel icon
without having to run it again from its desktop file.

The issue with your sound volume is related to pulseaudio being unable to
save the stream device settings you made at runtime. Give me some time to
dig into this.

To restore sink audio volume to previous settings on restart the following modules should be loaded with `/etc/pulse/default.pa':

     load-module module-device-restore
     load-module module-card-restore
     load-module module-stream-restore restore_device

To be able to switch devices we had to add the following to the stream_restore module

- load-module module-stream-restore restore_device
+ load-module module-stream-restore restore_device=false

Try if that resolves the issue. Changes to take effect need a restart of pulseaudio (run `pulseaudio -k').

On our system the volumes always restore to previous settings even after a reboot. Do not load another default volume from your default.pa (which could also live in `~/.config/pulse' or `~/.pulse').
