Bug Description

I have an Asus eeepc 1018P that worked correctly with Kubuntu 11.10 AMD64.

When I tried to upgrade to the last version I lost the wireless functionality:

in the network-manager widget no network is listed (I have done all the test at 1 meter from the access point - all other devices in my house connect regularly to this network)

using wifi-radar no network is listed.

I tried different versions from the install CD or installed on HD. Here the results:

Ubuntu 13.10 AMD64 from CD - NO NETWORK LISTED

Kubuntu 13.10 AMD64 from CD - NO NETWORK LISTED

Kubuntu 13.10 AMD64 from HD - NO NETWORK LISTED

Kubuntu 12.10 AMD64 from CD - SUCCESS I see the networks and I'm able to connect to the access point

Kubuntu 12.10 AMD64 from HD - NO NETWORK LISTED

The strange thing is that 12.10 worked when booted from the installer CD; bun once installed on the HD after the reboot the networks are missing.

What can I try?

I'm now using a different machine.

ASAP I'll run the command from the eeepc using the wired connection.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.13 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I never tried this before.

at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds page I find instructions for example kernels

at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.13-rc4-trusty/ I see only the headers; the instruction page says that there should be also image files

Seems that linux-headers-3.13.0-031300rc4_3.13.0-031300rc4.201312151635_all.deb should be the only file needed; but I don't know how to build and install a kernel from this file

What have I to do?

Mybe can I use the Alpha1 of Trusty from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/TrustyTahr/Alpha1/Kubuntu ?

I cannot use the Alpha1 of Trusty from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/TrustyTahr/Alpha1/Kubuntu booting the CD gives only a black screen.

I reinstalled from scratch a 13.10 version formatting the / partition.

The network management plasmoid on status bar shows an unreachable network; but trying to connect to this network and saying cancel to the password request for WPA, starts some kind of scan and the other wifi networks appears; so I'm able to connect.

affects: linux (Ubuntu) → plasma-widget-networkmanagement

Tried different Kubuntu versions with the same result: not able to detect and connect ro a wireless access point

Versions tried:

13.10 (also with mail kernel 3.13.0-031300rc3 )
13.04
12.10
12.04.3

Seems related to the Broadcom wireless driver. I have a BCM4313 model

Can I try something else?
