Bug Description

Binary package hint: brasero

If I try creating a CD by adding files in Brasero then buring directly to disk (using defaults all the way through) brasero creates coasters every time.

If I add files, then build an ISO, then burn the ISO instead, Brasero seems to work fine.

but so far, I've tried 5 times on three different machines and each time, Brasero made a nice plastic coaster instead of a usable CD or DVD.

When I use an ISO image instead, Brasero successfully burns a useful disk

I'm getting this bug too. The workaround works great. Thank you!

Thanks for the report, may someone please get a brasero debugging log ? Please run brasero as: brasero --brasero-media-debug --brasero-burn-debug &> brasero.txt ; reproduce the issue and attach that resulting log to the report. A log file is important for us and the maintainers to have a better idea on where the issue is, thanks a lot!.

This bug has been reported months ago and nothing happened since. I'd like to stress that Brasero is rubbish unless it JUST WORKS. I have just made a few shiny coasters on a few PCs with Ubuntu (3 of them actually) as I couldn't believe this could be a software fault... No one releases burning software that is not capable of doing its main goal -- burning discs! Why adding this functionality when it fails on every PC?

BTW, not sure if the disc writing facility integrated with Nautilus is also backed up by Brasero but that also failed for me... All the coasters are not recognized by the DVD reader on any PC (also checked with Windows)...

I had the same issue, opened a bug report and now I found this one, so I decided to add the link to mine including a syslog:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero/+bug/867570

I destroyed several cd's before finding the workaround...for new ubuntu users it is deterrent that you cannot burn cd's...
