Eek, this was six months ago! Sorry about that. I'd like to fix this (and a bunch of other things here), but may take a little while, as my personal project Fridays are currently devoted to building some furniture :/

Just to narrow things down, are you using X11 or Wayland? If it's Wayland, that would immediately explain it. (We're using an X11 extension to check for idleness). I recall there's a library floating around somewhere for figuring out the user's idle time in this brave new world, which we can plug in here as necessary, and it should probably just replace that old thing completely. (If that library has vanished, there's also a d-bus interface we can use).

If anyone would like to hop in and submit a patch, I would be delighted to merge it, but I do hope I can help with this sooner rather than later.
