new viewer crops some larger books

You have some real fans of the new viewer at this library. They love it and have gone thru checking a lot of their books online just because it looks so neat.

That said they noticed that some of the larger books such as http://www.archive.org/stream/recueildevuesdes00ponc#page/n3/mode/2up are cropped in the new viewer. You cannot zoom out to see the whole page. Multi page viewing shows the whole image.

You can see the image itself actually includes a substantial margin above and below the book, all of which is cropped out in the BookReader display, although the left margin remains. It looks almost as though the image size is calculated for the full window, and then the top and bottom navigation bars are placed over it, covering the top and bottom of the image, instead of calculating the image size for the space that will remain between the nav bars.

Interesting. It does look like that. The extra borders around books are such an important thing to the library here. We worked for a while on getting the right amount and color of border for the books.

Now that I've seen the blogpost announcing the new version (http://blog.openlibrary.org/2010/12/09/new-bookreader/), I grasp that those nav bars are hideable - see the triangle icon near the bottom right. Then the full image is visible.

Hi Mang,

We've gotten some feedback that the books should scale, by default, such that the are 100% viewable with navigation.
As it stands, you need to hide the navigation or zoom out on the text to see the entire thing.
