bdr crashes on login with django 1.3

This is a bug similar to what I ran into last September, but never finished troubleshooting.

I'm working through updating bombardier to work with Ubuntu 12.04 and want to use the default django if possible.

Here's the error output:

This is not helpful, but the error on the debug page complains about:

    object has no attribute 'root'
