The output screen doesn't mention the ~/.config/

I do not see /Default/ Preferences in chromium.xml. Do you maybe mean the keywords table in the file ~/.config/ chromium/ Default/ Web Data? Try removing that line from chromium.xml or whitelisting that file through the BleachBit preferences, and try again.
(If you want, you can backup your Chromium profile by copying ~/.config/ chromium. )
