Bug Description

first I would just like to say thanks for making something equilvolent to ccleaner in linux.and i hope you add the option for secure deletion in the future(guttman etc)

my problem seems to be around bleachbits.when i run it i find that the next time i come back to firefox the bookmarks are reset to a earlier time, unable to delete or make bookmarks, well i can make or delete them it is just that the next time i close firefox it will reset.I figured out how to fix it about:config and reset the browser.places to default.but the next time i run bleachbits it is back to the same problem.

I am pretty new to linux(well just came back after ten years away,SuSE 4.2 was last distro) and i'm running ubuntu 9.04
and will soon migrate to fedora 11 when it is released.

I don't know if there is anything i can do to help, but thanks.using latest bleachbit

setiamon: It shouldn't be long before a new version of BleachBit is released. Until then, simply run this command in a terminal

rm ~/.mozilla/firefox/*/bookmarkbackups/*json

Also, you don't need to quote my reply as it's already on the same page of this bug report.

setiamon:
Regarding secure delete option
1. Please let's keep this bug report on topic regarding Firefox
2. BleachBit does have secure erase. It wipes data quickly with a method approved by experts for modern hard drives

hmm I just ran bleachbits 5.0 and it deleted all my bookmarks.
Is this the intended action of bleachbits?I guess I'll have to export my bookmarks every time i run bleachbits now.

Setiamon, Did you check the box called Places? Read its description carefully

Places: A database of URLs including bookmarks, favicons, and a history of visited web sites

Ouch, So what you can't delete URL history without killing all your bookmarks? Will this change anytime soon?

Andrew Ziem (ahziem1) wrote :

Firefox v3's design stores all those items in a single file, so instead of clicking 'Places' consider clicking 'URL history'. The downside to 'URL history' is it may be less effective in combination with the secure deletion system.

Hmm

If I were to Export my bookmarks before running bleachbits and then import them would this resolve this issue or would exporting my bookmarks also export my url history?maybe there can be a feature to resolve this in the future,a automatic Exporting then importing bookmarks in firefox when bleachbits is used.it is a bit sloppy but a solution?that is if the url history isn't copied with the bookmarks

Just check the box 'URL history' and uncheck 'Places'
