Bug Description

The package doesn't provide a valid Installed-Size control field. See Debian Policy 5.6.20. due to this error the application is not being able to be installed in the system (tested on Ubuntu 11.04 Natty), and if "Ignore and continue" is selected then the application is not shown in the Ubuntu menu (in unity) and also in the older Ubuntu classic (gnome shell) menu.

Wow, thank you for this bug report.

Unfortunately, a couple of versions ago FFMPEG's AAC support got broken because the source code for it was under a dubious license, so they switched out that code for a different implementation that simply didn't work properly for our purposes.

Since then, Blacklight has been abandonware, unfortunately. I haven't even tried installing it on Natty.

It was always packaged in a quick-and-dirty way with little regard to Debian policy so I'm not surprised it raises warnings with Ubuntu 11.04's more stringent controls. Thanks for the hint about the installed-size field, I'll keep it in mind.

The ordinary "blacklight" package is only a command-line tool. The blacklight-gui package provides a GUI and should create .desktop links in Gnome - it always has before. Does the blacklight-gui package create the menu entries in Gnome in Ubuntu 11.04?

Seeing as there's still some interest in Blacklight I might have a look at getting it going again on Ubuntu 11.04. Thank you very much for the bug report.
