Bug Description

The FIE points towards the FencingTime XML viewer page; https://www.fencingtime.com/XmlConverter for viewing FIE XML files, however the .cotcot files don't render correctly. I haven't been able to work out what is different.

Another sample.

Both of these are from actual competitions.

Hi,

You've actually used an extra feature not covered by the FIE specifications. Your competition is split after the pool round into 2 derived competitions (male/female). For this reason the viewer exposes the 4th round as empty. Is it the the point that troubled you?

That said and from my point of view the data is however correctly displayed and is consistent with the cotcot file. Am I wrong?

Hi Yannick,
I'll add another straight comp below, this one is a mixed comp with 1 round of poules and a DE. In the Fencingtime XML converter there is no final results (the same as all the others actually).

Hi Carl,

I didn't pay attention to the final results but I got it now.
The reason why the final results are not displayed comes from the "Statut" attribute in the xml file.
In BellePoule the fencers are assigned the status in their last round which is most of the time a "Q" (Qualified) while the viewer seems to expect a "N" (Not qualified).

After changing the statut value of the fencers from "Q" to "N" the final results are properly displayed.

Setting a "Not qualified" attribute to the fencers sounds strange to me especially for the winner and could be either a bug in the viewer or a requirement inherited from a legacy software.

I'm going to read the FIE's specification again to check all of that.

That said if the bug in BellePoule is confirmed, I don't think that's a real concern. The xml files produced by BellePoule have been imported without any trouble for years into the ranking system of organizations (French federation, European federation and more) and results websites (escrime-info.com and more) based on the FIE specifications.
