Hi Yannick
Thanks for the quick response. Below is a screen shot of the error when attempting to export the attached competition to PDF but the error simply reads “error while writing to output stream”
To try and determine if this might be a permission issue, I did two things.
First was to completely uninstall bellepoule and removed the existing folder. After a restart I reinstalled the application as the administrator on my win10 surface. I also disabled by virus application during the process to ensure that this did not impact on the application. After that I ran the application both as the computer administration and myself (admin rights) and in both instances I was able to create a competition in bellepoule however when I saved the competition to a local folder on my desktop, the save icon greyed out to signify that it had saved but no file appeared in the folder. A search of the harddrive failed to identify the files in any other location.
Secondly to copied the existing files with the export issues from the dropbox folder to the local desktop folder. All permissions were checked and I had full control of the files and folders. In all instances I attempted to export to html, FFF and PDF. Both html and FFF appeared to be successful to the same desktop folder from within the application but the files did not exist in the folder. The PDF export gave the same “error while writing to output stream”.
This is the same on two different computers. Both win10

Hello Rob,
Your two bugs (#1762186 and #1762185) are probably similar and due to the same cause.
The changes implemented between v4.43 and v4.45 altered very few lines of code and didn't affect the file saving and I sincerely don't think that it can explain your concern.
It happened for a dropbox folder, but does it happen too for other regular folders?
Can you tell me more about the PDF export error? Did the message give more details?
Did you check the permission rights of your dropbox folder? Do they have stronger restrictions than the other folder?
Yannick.

Hi Yannick
In addition I found that I still had a download of v4.44 which was working for the creation of competitions and exports to html. I completed an uninstall of v4.45 and then a reinstall of v4.44 but ended with the same result that I could not save a new competition or save an html export. I am wondering if this may have been related to a win10 update.

Hi Rob,
I need to know more. I've generated a new version with a console for traces:

Can you install it, open a competition and export its final result as FFF file?
Copy the traces logged in the console and send them to me.
Sorry for the experiment work, but I've no other way to understand what's going on.

Hi Yannick
Follow the below process;
1. Completely uninstalled existing bellpoule - restarted
2. Installed bug view version of bellepoule
3. Opened competition from dropbox folder (screenshot)
4. Exported fff to dropbox folder (no indication that it had an error) (screenshot)
5. Confirmed that file did not exist in folder (screenshot)
6. Screenshot of console
Let me know if you want me to try this on another of the computers and another process.
Thanks for the quick response

Hi,
According to the logs it's not a permission issue but a file name issue.
I've generated another trial version with more details in the traces:

Run it to save an FFF result file again and send me a copy of the console.
To confirm my assumption, can you perform too the same test but with a shorter file name without accent like É.

Hi Yannick
Performed the following;
1. Same process of removal and re-install of bellepoule
2. Run same test with first screen shot
3. In the same location copied and re-named file without accent in name and ran same test and ensured that accent removed in the export name(same result second screenshot)
4. In the same location copied and re-named to “Test” and ran the same test twice in same session. The first time I left the export name the same as before but updated the accent and in the second just set the export file to “test”
In all tests the system did not show any errors and the file was not saved to the location specified.
Thanks

Hi Yannick
My apologies. I did an error in one of the last tests. The “Test” Version did save the fff file but in a different location. I have re-tested this with a Test2 copy of the .cotcot and fff file which was successful. I have repeated the test below both on the renamed .cotcot file and the original with the accent as long as I rename the output file name to be shorter. This also included a test on the original file in the original location saving to the original location in dropbox.
I then did some further testing on the original competition files in the original dropbox location saving both fff and html to the original dropbox folder. What I ended up finding was that it was a very hit or miss success using the file name provided by bellepoule but if I completely replaced the file name suggested with my own typing then everything has worked. For example the competition file name is “20180408OAME-
Let me know if you would like me to perform any specific testing for this.

Rob

Hi Rob,
I've just found the problem. For a reason I ignore, special characters have been added to the end of your competition's title.
As the exported file names are based on the title they fail to be saved because the special characters are not supported in file names.
Solution (see the attached image) ==>
1) Open your competition with BellePoule
2) Remove the special character at the end of the title (button Preferences)

Hi Yannick
I think I have located the root cause of the two issues. The name in the preferences has been copied from an excel spreadsheet formula that holds the naming convention for our results page. The special character would be directly from this copy.
Thanks for the prompt replies and all the help on this. I have been able to successfully create a competition and export to html.
