GPS coordinate conversion

Would be something to allow compatability/conversion of co-ordinates?? I use GRASS GIS, and the co-ords I prefer to use are eastings and northings on a particular zone. NOW, it may be that current tools are out there, e.g. gpsbabel, or even postgis, that have all the data/conversions required to convert co-ordinates and can be 'plugged in' to bauble somehow? rather than re-inventing the wheel.

My alternative workaround, if I wanted to store co-ords in easting/northing, would probably be to leave the lat/long as is, use copy/paste or .csv steps to get co-ords to/from e.g. gpsbabel, do the conversion, if necessary make a temp/separate table to get .txt or .csv data back into the database, then add columns (easting, northing) and run an update query.
