Bug Description

Binary package hint: banshee

In Xubuntu 8.04, when I move my mouse onto the little artwork thumbnail at the top of the window a large version of the artwork pops up. If I then use my mouse's scroll wheel while my mouse is over the larger pop up thumbnail it makes my computer cycle through virtual desktops.

This happens everytime regardless what the album artwork is.

After further investigation...

An up scroll motion makes the thumbnail pop up disappear with no negative effects.

A down scroll makes me switch desktops.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough information. Please include:
* The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy packagename' or by checking in Synaptic.
* What you expected to happen
* Is this the same as http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=537942 , Mousewheel should skip forward/backward when rolled on playback position slider

Charlie, the bug is described pretty clearly. When mousing over the cover art, the virtual desktop changes. Since it's Xubuntu, I'm confidently guessing it's xfdesktop's default shortcut to switch desktops when scrolling over the desktop.

As mentioned upstream (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=547734):
"it seems that the mouse events are being ignored by banshee -- and picked up by the underlying desktop."

belovedmonster, are you using Compiz/Desktop Effects? If so, could you test with them disabled? That seems to be the only workaround mentioned upstream.

I wasn't using Compiz.

This comment (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=547734) on the Gnome Bug tracker seems to be the nearest to an explanation.

"I've found that scrolling over dead space in other programs (Nautilus and
Evolution) also switches the desktop if Compiz is set to switch when the mouse
wheel is used on the desktop. Banshee could "fix" this by eliminating dead
space, but it seems like more of a Compiz issue."

Except, instead of using Compiz I have the vanilla Xubuntu XFCE desktop which also switches desktops on a mouse scroll.

Marked as a duplicate of 277195 because this is not a Banshee-specific bug. This appears to be a broader GTK+ bug.
