Bug Description

Using the GUI installer, if there's no internet connection, a message is displayed saying that the installer couldn't access the security repository. It says that the repository has been added to the sources.list file commented out.

This seems inappropriately technical for what's supposed to be the easy GUI installer. Wouldn't it be better to tell the user to go into Synaptic (rather than into /etc/apt/sources.list), or at least hide the detail in a twistie?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I've tried to recreate this using Hardy Heron Alpha 5, http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ , and have been unsuccessful. I believe this was fixed in the Hardy development cycle. Which version of the installer were you testing and could you test with Alpha 5? Thanks in advance.

I found this bug when I was installing Gutsy. I've just tried to look at the installer using the Live CD in Alpha 5 but I don't want to do any partitioning and the message in this bug comes after the partitioning wizard. Sorry, I can't be more help.

Thanks for your report. Following this change in Alpha 5, this message will no longer be displayed at installation time.

apt-setup (1:0.31ubuntu5) hardy; urgency=low

  * Run 'apt-get update' for all sources.list lines produced by a single
generator in one go, and don't comment out sources.list lines if it
    fails (LP: #154095).
