Bug Description
Binary package hint: synaptic
Synaptic works fine without scrollkeeper, but now it depends on it :(
I think, Synaptic should recommend scrollkeeper, but not depend on it - now, when you install synaptic you also get a lot of unneeded packages - scrollkeeper, docbook-xml, libscrollkeeper0, libxslt1.1, scrollkeeper, sgml-data, all these package are needed only for scrollkeeper.
According to the Debian Policy Manual ( http://
Recommends:
This declares a strong, but not absolute, dependency.
The Recommends field should list packages that would be found together with this one in all but unusual installations.
Btw, help (F1) in synaptic works fine even if scrollkeeper isn't installed - when I choose Help->Contents (F1) I get firefox window, which displaying file:// /usr/share/ synaptic/ html/index. html help file !
So, another way to not force people to install unneeded scrollkeeper with it's dependancies (docbook-xml, libscrollkeeper0, libxslt1.1, scrollkeeper, sgml-data) would be depend or recommend
