Bug Description
Binary package hint: vlc
if I start Totem or Rythmox and VLC after that, VLC gives no sound (video is OK)
if I start VLC and Totem or Rythmox after that, they don't play -- just show paused (well the movie in totem seems to progres veryveryvery slowly ~one fps , but still no sound:)
I can play several VLC in one time with no problem
and also the same "no problem" for any combination of Totem and Rythmbox
I also tried starting them from cmdline, so vlc gave some output (at some time)
VLC media player 0.8.6e Janus
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.
[00000338] jack audio output error: failed to connect to JACK server
[00000338] oss audio output error: cannot open audio device (/dev/dsp)
[00000338] main audio output error: couldn't find a filter for the conversion
[00000338] main audio output error: couldn't create audio output pipeline
[00000390] a52 decoder: A/52 channels:2 samplerate:48000 bitrate:192000
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.
in my sound playback settings "Autodetect" is mostly set
when vlc is playing they give no sound when testing,
but if I chose "ALSA", the tests do ok, and the conflicts dissapear
if I choose "pulse..", the problem appears again
so I am not sure if this is more vlc or more pulse-audio issue
I think that it's pulseaudio that is badly installed. I also had that bug.
Just reinstall pulseaudio.
apt-get install --reinstall pulseaudio
