Bug Description

Binary package hint: brasero

I'm using Brasero 0.7.1 on Hardy.

I have just realised that it lets you use the overburn option if you try to burn a data CD, but if you try to burn a .ISO file that is slightly over 700 mb (e.g. today's Ubuntu daily build, which is 705) it will just give you an error, and not let you burn at all.

thanks for your report, bug http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=346826 pointed the issue but they said it's fixed, linking it and feel free to comment on it if you're not happy with the solution, leaving this as incomplete until the upstream bug get some feedback from you.

I just wanna inform, that overburn is not needed when burning some over 700 mb .iso files, for example into majority of CD-R/RW discs can be written 702-703 mb files. You can test this by writing .iso image with this command:

wodim -v -dao dev=/dev/cdrw cdimage.iso

Why the status of this bug is set to "Fix Committed" ? This bug isn't fixed, it seems someone set status of upstream bug to "Fix Released" by mistake, look at latest comments in upstream bug:

A Brasero Developer closed the upstream report, why do you think that's a mistake? can you comment on the upstream report rather? Thanks.

I couldn't say, I haven't tried to burn a >700mb iso for some time now.

I'll keep you posted.

I just wanted to write about 780MB to a 800MB disc using brasero. The disc was only recognized as 700MB by brasero, which wouldn't be a problem. But the problem was that it wouldn't let me select to overburn the disc, it just asked me to insert a larger disc.

It's brasero 0.8.2 in todays intrepid ibex.

ps@virginia:~$ brasero --version
GNOME brasero 0.8.2

I thik, there is problem with all burning programs( I have checked K3B,Brasero, GnomeBarker). I can do simple data disk over 700MB - it is posible. But burning IMAGE CD over 700MB is not posible by any program.

Ubuntu 8.10

That should now be possible with the latest versions of brasero (> 0.8.4).

Synaptic on Hardy as of today still claims 0.7.1-3ubuntu1 as "Latest Available Version", with symptoms as reported by pableu on 2008-10-30 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero/+bug/202949/comments/7).

How should the fix be retrieved for Ubuntu 8.04 LTS?

Seen reoccuring 2009-10-25 with a Verbatim 800MB on Hardy (as initially reported, CD-Rs >700MB neither detected nor recordable); fix apparently not provided by general repository for 8.04 LTS.

This will not be provided for Ubuntu 8.04 as it is not a security issue.
