Bug Description

gnome-disk-utility tool was greatly improved (completely rewritten) in GNOME 3.4 release cycle, but Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise) still has old 3.0 version :(

Please update gnome-disk-utility to latest upstream stable version 3.4 in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

I've found Ubuntu packages of new gnome-disk-utility in GNOME3 team repository: https://launchpad.net/~gnome3-team/+archive/gnome3

These packages are created by Ubuntu developers Jeremy Bicha <email address hidden> and Robert Ancell <email address hidden>:

gnome-disk-utility (3.4.0-0ubuntu1~precise1) precise; urgency=low
  * New upstream release:
    - volume-grid: don't set the PRELIGHT state flag
    - Initialize gettext support so i18n actually works
 -- Robert Ancell <email address hidden> Thu, 29 Mar 2012 16:18:18 +1100

gnome-disk-utility (3.3.93-0ubuntu1~precise1) precise; urgency=low
  * New upstream release.
    - Major rewrite
    - Renamed to Disks
    - libgdu removed in favor of libudisks2; gnome-disk-utility
      is the only binary now
  * Drop all patches as they're obsolete and LPI doesn't yet support
    GNOME's new menus
  * debian/control.in:
    - Drop a bunch of now-obsolete build-depends
    - Bump gtk and udisks2 build-depends
  * debian/copyright: Updated
  * debian/rules:
    - Build with -Wno-error=format-security (BGO: #669512)
  * debian/watch: Watch for xz tarballs

We will remain with gnome-disk-utility 3.2 for Ubuntu 12.04 since the 3.4 version is a major rewrite and it depends on udisks2 which hasn't had near as much testing as udisks.

For Ubuntu 12.10, we'll likely use udisks2 and gnome-disk-utility 3.4.

Curently Ubuntu 12.04 contains gnome-disk-utility 3.0, not 3.2
There are no 3.2 release, see ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/gnome-disk-utility/

Btw, can't we install udisks2 together with udisks ?

Yes, it's possible to install udisks and udisks2 at the same time (that's what we do in the GNOME3 PPA). But gnome-disk-utility is shipped on the default CD and we do not want to try to support udisks2 and the new gnome-disk-utility for the LTS.
