Sorry, but merging with Debian won't help as Debian's version doesn't add anything that Ubuntu's doesn't have.

This problem might be fixed upstream in the upcoming kernel 3.1. From the 3.1-rc4 changelog:

commit 6118514e8749105334f46ccec6faf9a439be6cf9
Author: Andrew Bird
Date: Wed Aug 17 00:20:03 2011 +0100

USB option driver K3765/K4505 avoid CDC_DATA interface

Currently the Option driver avoids binding interface 1 on Huawei K3765
and K4505 broadband modems as it should be handled by the cdc_ether
driver instead. This patch ensures we don't bind the interface 2
on those devices as that is CDC_DATA.

    Cc: stable
    Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman

A PPA of kernel 3.1-rc4 is available at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/
A PPA of 3.1 final will be available at the same location shortly after it's release.

Essentially just needs cherry-picking on the patch; but if someone could please test the kernel in mainline and confirm that it works there, then we could be "certain" that this indeed corrects the issue. Unfortunately, I cannot test as I don't have this particular modem.

ThIs patch should be included in upstream's next 3.0-stable release (3.0.5).

I have tried 3.1.0 RC4 from Ubuntu mainline. And that didn't helped :[ Modem
still refuses to connect.

The problem is not solved in this kernel.

I'm trying to connect a huwei K3765 and it's impossible to set up the connection:

$ lsusb
...
Bus 003 Device 007: ID 12d1:1465 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.

I have no choice but to do a downgrade to ubuntu 11.04, ubuntu version in which some users report that this modem works.

The kernel I've tried is the recommended by madbiologist: 3.1-rc4

do you need some information in order to solve this problem?

I retract all I've said: sorry.

The modem huawei k3765 works like a charm with the official kernel of ubuntu oneiric.

The problem was a malfunction of the usb port.

Sorry again.

@Pekorius - Does it work for you on Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot"?

Yea mine modem works really nice, but I had configured mine Mobile Broadband information manually because predefined information nevertheless correct but refuses me to connect.
I had manually write APN: banga in stead of choosing it from list. That feels sad If the average user won't be able to connect easily

Closing as Fix Released since it's reportedly working; and we don't have any additional information to indicate that there is an issue.

In 12.04 (or in quantal) we also now ship the "banga" APN as provider "Bite" in Lithuania.
