Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Since Unity with Ubuntu 11.04, there's no way to enable desktop effects w/o Unity. The tab in gnome-appearance-properties is missing, and setting Compiz as window manager in GConf doesn't work either.

A workaround is adding "compiz --replace" as a startup application, but it would be nice if we had an easier and more consistent option again.

Hi,

As a workaround, try the following:

sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager

It worked for me. Though I do agree that it would be nice if this was a bit more obvious.

compizconfig-settings-manager is installed, but metacity is still being
used as window manager. However, I'm using a dedicated /home partition
with settings from 10.10, so this might not be the right behaviour.
