The wired Ethernet interface is configured correctly under 64-bit Maverick Meerkat live desktop, but after installation to hard drive, it is no longer detected at boot.

The problem existed also under Ubuntu 10.04, so it is not a regression. The hardware platform is a Toshiba Satellite L655-S5101 (Part Number: PSK2CU-01Y01U).

I understand that this is a duplicate of a bug filed elsewhere, but the instructions found elsewhere in launchpad and forums are not n00b-friendly enough for me to successfully configure the device. Without explicit instructions of the "sudo type-exactly-this" variety, I'll be hopelessly lost. :^)

Matters are further complicated by the fact that the wireless interface also fails to auto-configure correctly, so I have no Internet access at all when booting to the hard drive, which means that walkthroughs which presuppose that I can compile the atl1c.ko from source may not work unless I can manage to "sudo apt-get install build-essential" -- is this a chicken-or-the-egg problem?

Hi wesdym,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 665424

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]
