Bug Description

Hello,

We are prepairing dual openDVD (installs for win theopendisk.com way + linux Live)
Linux stuff takes ~1.5GB, and installs for win ~3GB

to start installing Linux wubi clones the iso img to hdd,
why occupy the extra 3GB hdd space,

maybe its possible to copy only Linux stuff ?

We are after feature freeze, and I am not sure I will be allowed to implement the above. I agree that extracting a full DVD is a bit wasteful, but at least it should work. A more important issue IMO is that if the ISO is not explictly supported in isolist.ini it may fail once checksums are enabled, since at the moment the system is setup to support 1 metalink/ISO per distro, which means that the LiveCD md5 will be used on the DVD... Second issue might be that the space calculation is not accurate, since I allow for 1GB free for the ISO on top of the virtual disks size. Apologies for the trouble but I was not informed about the openDVD, we might have to clear that with featurefreeze.

well, our project is quite local for now, but it might come in handy for many countries
(more detailed idea http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~jurgis-pralgauskis/+junk/all-ways/revision/3, webpage http://mokslui.akl.lt)

if there appears a way to (quite easily) hack this for us, please inform :)
Thanks

The DVD should work whenevere there is NO internet connection (provided /casper/filesystem.squashfs is there and .disk/info matches the one in the LiveCD). If there is an internet connection Wubi will be able to retrieve the MD5 of the LiveCD and things will go sour. Please test such theory once checksums are in the metalinks.

What I can do is to allow for a switch in settings.nsh that will disable remote metalinks, and add a max ISO size to calculate required free space more accurately. IF that is approved, you will need to change such flags and recompile your own Wubi version. I am afraid that copying over only a subset of the files is not doable at this stage.

My understanding is that Wubi will not be used on DVD images and Evan asked to modify Umenu accordingly.

I have added a flag to skip checksums (nochecks) on top of that you can of course change isolist.ini and settings.nsh and recompile. I do not think I can do much more in this release.

In fact proposed changes to casper/wubi (#230716 and #207137) might address this too
