Bug Description

Think I've fixed one part of why the new alt-tab switcher is frustrating: there is a lack of feedback to the user until the keys have been released (either in the form of the popup in the centre of the screen, or through other response in the window layout).

For the last couple of cycles we've had the Compiz switcher with a very variable latency of between 50 and 5,000 milliseconds.

AFAICT, the new-style alt-tab has a fast mode that seems to switch between windows of the same class (same application, for instance several Terminals) and a slow alt-tab, switching between different applications.

The feedback can probably be solved by always showing the pop-up.

Ahhh, narrowed this down further.

will given no feedback indefinitely—it is not possible to proceed to the visible switcher popup.

Even better:

Alt-taaaaaaaaaaab (which can be as slow as about 250 milliseconds)

and there is no feedback either, nor the ability to get to the popup switcher either.
