Bug Description

On my netbook, I find it hard to make out the white text on the light gray background at the top of the quicklist. When I checked the colors, I found the background of the lighter section to be close to #9c9997 while the text is #ffffff, white. According to http://snook.ca/technical/colour_contrast/colour.html, this color choice doesn't pass any standards for legible text.

Furthermore, the design is visually distinct from any other part of the unity desktop - the checkered dot pattern is no longer used anywhere but in the quicklist. Personally, I think that making the quicklist simpler with a plain, dark background (like the dash) would be a good fix.

The dot pattern is used also in the border of Dash (when not full screen). I agree with you on the need to darken the background of the quicklists.
