As the bar is in the center of the icons they look kind of "crossed out" , its harder to recognise the icon and adds clutter to the launcher. Just put it at the bottom of each icon. |
When a Unity launcher item has a progress bar, the bar crosses the center of the icon. This makes it look kind of "crossed out" -- it's harder to recognise the icon and adds clutter to the launcher.
Firefox UX designers have reportedly complained about this, when considering whether to use the progress bar for downloads: the bar and badge "cover the most iconic part of the logo". <https://twitter.com/Omega/status/65532788371243008>
One solution would be to put the bar closer to the bottom of the icon. This might require care to ensure the bar stays visible when the launcher item is "folded" in an overflowing launcher. |
