Unity requires too many clicks to switch between maximized apps

Suppose you have a maximized firefox, and want to switch to another app from the launcher, this is what you have to do:

1. Click on the ubuntu icon in the top left cornor.
2. Click on the app icon in the launcher. However, this doesn't launch the app. It just hides the search panel.
3. Click on the app icon again, quickly. Because if you do not click it quickly, the launcher will hide itself.

This is a horrible user experience. Please fix it.

I'm using unity 3.6.8 under ubuntu 11.04 beta 1
