Bug Description

The only way currently to switch to other windows of an app is to double-click its launcher icon so that it opens a large Compiz view of running windows. It would be nice if, along with this view, there was another way of switching between windows of the same app. In this way, when the user would right-click the launcher icon, then he would see a list of running windows. The title of the windows would be displayed. These list items would be separated by a separator from the rest of the list items.

It's an interesting idea, but should be debated, mocked up on the
ayatana list first.

I'd like to close the bug opinion until a stronger case and design is
presented.

I would like to see a list of open windows on right-click on the Launcher icon as well. I had this terrible experience with Document reader recently when I had to open 10+ pdf's at the same time. You basically get lost in the spread and it took me at least 3-4 trials to get to the pdf file that I intended to. This feature is a must if we want Unity to be truly functional. Current implementation causes huge amount of time lost if you have more than 3-4 windows open for an application.

This bug and the Ayatana ML thread at [1] have received positive feedback. Can someone from the Design team kindly give their feedback on this one so that I can begin work? Natty is still 18 days away from release and I can fix it in a jiffy.

Sometimes the exposé view is totally unnecessary. For example if you have two small skype windows open and they don't even overlap each other it would be better if clicking on the launcher would just bring both windows on top.

And I think it would be better to be able to cycle through multiple instances of the same application just by clicking on the launcher. It would be also faster because the exposé view is slow.

The exposé view is only useful if the are many instances of the same application.

Should other bug reports be opened for these?

I think this bug is really important.
Using an application with many windows open (like the browser) is really awful with current Unity.
You could also show small previews or the list when hovering (and not clicking) on the icon, so you'll save even more time.
