Installer – The option to 'Download updates' when installing Ubuntu should be selected by default |

Installer – The option to 'Download updates' when installing Ubuntu should be selected by default
== UX/UI justfication, Why do we want this ==
#FIXME

http://bit.ly/17SBZ1J
Proposed change from:
"""
The download available updates checkbox will never be made to install updates as well. For much the same reason behind not pivoting into the installed system without rebooting, we need to start the user in a known good state. This means not installing package updates that could potentially break the system. Equally important is that it's difficult to debug the installer when we do not have a clear picture of the end state.

#FIXME
== Current implementation ==
BLOCKED, (a) design specification inconsistent (b) technical requirement of known installation is not addressed.
When unblocked, please reassign the ubiquity task back to Ubuntu-Installer team. |

#FIXME please edit the installer design document mentioning that download updates checkbox should be pre-ticked.
== UX/UI Pros / Cons ==
== Technical Pros / Cons ==
We start downloading the updates earlier, but there is no guarantee all of them will be downloaded by the time the installation finishes. None of them are applied, so one will still see "Software Updates" available dialog on first boot and it will still require to finish up downloading packages. How does this relate to changes in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwareUpdates spec? Does the software updater download updates in the background by default as well? Both the installer and software updater should be consistent with respect to pre-downloading updates in the background, as otherwise software updater will pop up and still say that downloading is required.
== Current implementation ==
BLOCKED, (a) design specification not updated / inconsistent (b) the change and reasoning is not explained concisely.
== Current status ==
Download the updates is unckecked.

Currently the "Download updates while installing" option is unchecked by default.
If there is an Internet connection, it makes sense for the option to be checked by default. It's still present at all so that you can turn it off if you're installing while using an expensive connection.
<http://goo.gl/jDxJC>: "This checkbox should be checked by default if there is an Internet connection, or insensitive and unchecked if there isn’t. If it was left checked, updates should be downloaded during the installation, but not installed..." |
