Bug Description

Binary package hint: indicator-application

The indicator-applet in Maverick now shows the keyboard layout indicator. However, it ignores the setting allowing it to be hidden that was introduced by the fix to bug #519372 (/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/general/disable_indicator), and it appears that there is no other way to turn it off.

These icons take up a lot of space on the indicator applet...really looking forward to seeing them go!

I use an alternative layout switcher like xneur that has its own indicator so I definitely don't want the standard one messing around inside my panel! Having 2 indicators looks ugly (especially when they aren't adjacent) and takes up space. Please fix!

There is a good workaround for this problem at http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Language+Flags+for+Faenza+Dark+Panel?content=133910. Instead of the keyboard icon and text, you get just the letters 'US' for the US keyboard, etc. Note that after making the changes, you need to log off and back in again to get it to work.

summary: - Regression: keyboard layout indicator cannot be hidden
+ keyboard layout indicator cannot be hidden

Issue still exists in 12.04. Whenever there are more than one keyboard layouts available, the indicator is visible. There is no option to hide it.
