Bug Description

As we already have "System Settings" or "gnome-control-center", there is no need to mix settings stuff with normal apps.

Heartily seconded. Having all these redundant settings icons cluttering the application lens just makes finding actual applications that much harder. Application discoverability has repeatedly been considered by reviewers one of Unity's weakest points, and chancing this to subsume all settings "apps" into a single icon for the Control Centre would improve things, IMO.

GNOME Shell uses a separate search provider for settings applications, so if your search does turn up a settings panel it will appear under a "Settings" heading, out of the way of any other applications. Seems to me that's the way these launchers were intended to be presented, and Unity could do something similar quite easily ;)

Affecting Ayatana, as this needs design input.

I'm guessing "this needs designer input" is code for "let's ignore this and hope it goes away".
