Drag icons from starter to desktop to create symlink

I'd like to have some of my programms and folders as symlinks on the desktop. I found out I could drag them from the dash onto the desktop but my first intuition was to drag them from the starter onto the desktop. However, this doesn't work.

This bug may seem irrelevant as there is an easy workaround, but I think small Paper Cuts like that should get some attention, too. Unity is great since it mostly works as I expect it to do, but this is a (tiny) exception.
