Bug Description

My system settings for Brightness and Lock:

Turn screen off when inactive for: Never
Lock: On
Lock screen after: 30 minutes

The problem: when there is no screen off timeout but there is a lock timeout, the session never locks.

Under this configuration, I expect the OS to show a black lock screen, in the same manner when I lock the session manually.

I'm able to confirm this, but I've added a design task since I'm not sure if this is intentional. From the wording of the text on the Brightness Settings, I get the impression that automatic locking of the screen is dependant on the screen first being turned off, so if it's still on then it can't lock.

If it is by design and no screen timeout is set, it might make sense to gray out the lock controls.

This issue has sat "Incomplete" for more than seven years now without any further comment. I'm going to close it as "Invalid".

Please feel free to re-open this bug report if this is still an issue relevant to a currently supported release of Ubuntu.
