Large menu tooltips in notification area and indicator applets are scrolled when panel is on left or right

Environment: GNOME, Metacity, Compiz
Video card: GeForce 8800 GT with version 260.19.06 proprietary drivers
With AWN docked to the left or right side of the screen, clicking on a tray icon (notification or indicator) will cause the menu to show initially scrolled down. This only happens if the tooltip menu is large; that is, there are enough items to give it a certain height. Additionally, scrolling the menu down will fix it until it is next opened.
