It also happens to me if I simply move my mouse down to the bottom of the screen where AWN hasn't expanded to. This will bring up AWN and it will stay up until you move the mouse to an icon in AWN. I don't think AWN should even show up if you move the mouse to a part of the screen to which it has not yet extended.

This is very annoying and happens all the time. As a matter of fact, it is happening right now...
