I tried things out with another GStreamer based media app, Totem, which doesn't show DVD playback in its menu.
When I'd manually open the .VOB file off the DVD using Totem's file browser, it'd give an error also.
So I found how to run it from Terminal, which worked in that application. I adapted this for Audience to be able to start the DVD from terminal, lacking the 'man' page or help output from terminal for Audience, I discovered the command through a few attempts of trial and error.
Audience opens the DVD menu with this command. Which tells me, even though it opens the DVD as shown in the debug output in my original post, it fails via that method, but works with an absolute path.
I assume this is a bug?
When it opens, the aspect ratio is almost right, but slightly horizontally squished. When I full screen, it stays a small video window in the large black window.
I'm currently running Freya v0.3.1 updated from a fresh install of v0.3 with the original v3.16 kernel, I'll do another fresh install from the new ISO so I have the new HWE Stack.
