Apparently that option is only supported in newer gcc versions.
Probably needs a check (either comparing gcc versions or a test run with the option to see if it actually compiles stuff). I dug up http://

Integrated the linked stuff. (All one needs to to is copy/paste the code into acinclude.m4 and use the macro in configure.ac).
