Custom unit exit direction/path

Bug Description

Allowing the modder to choose an exit direction and path for warfactories, barracks, and other production structures. Example use would be the left-facing warfactories from old RA2 screenshots. Allowing units to exit to the left and go left, rather than exit to the right and go right.

This would be great! Make a downward faceing warfactori, and let the unit exit that direction! That would be sweet!

So basically a subterranean tunnel that builds units that immediately go underground or is it is build in midair and falls to the ground?

I don't think you've understood. Basically, when infantry and units leave the barracks/warfactory, the direction they leave (barracks - down, warfactory - southeast) is hardcoded. This removes the option of having for example a warfactory where the units leave to the southwest side.

That's what I thought, but Mr. Anonymous was talking about a downward war factory. I was thinking of how that would work

I think he meant downwards as in south, not downwards as in into the ground.

Ah then please make your purpose clear; there are several facings a voxel has and flat terrain only uses 8 of them.

this would take a shedload of work, seeing as the warfactory behaviour is hardcoded, and a bugger to change, (see various discussions on custom foundations and their limitations) but it would open up custom shaped warfactories, and that, judging by the threads, is something several people in the community want.

I consider this nice to have, but IMO it should be low priority as it doesn't open up that much creative potential when most of the creativity goes into the actual arcitectural designe of hte building and not which way it faces. Apart from off center exits, I don't think it really adds much to the game or would get used that much.
