Clarification: this happens only to AircraftTypes. Doesn't happen if there are none on the map (at least true for pad aircrafts).

I was going to report this bug in broader terms, but this is the same issue, and I'd just like to comment my experience with it, as well as some extra details I can confirm. This has been troublesome for me for a while, so I'm glad to see I am not the only one who has dealt with this.

- AA units will automatically hunt any aircraft, pad or non-pad. So there are pad units such as Harriers, as well as all spawned aircraft (Boris Migs, spy planes, paradrop planes, Hornets, V3 rockets, Dreadnought/Boomer missiles).
- It is not specifically chaos gas that causes this, but simply the event of an AA unit entering hunt mode. So if an AI firesales and sends all their units out, the AA units will chase aircraft, if any are present. When there are none, they will hunt everything as normal until an aircraft appears somewhere, then they will stop what they are doing to chase it until it is destroyed or leaves the map. Recovering from Recovering from EMP and being freed from mind control also trigger this behavior (since the unit enters hunt mode).
- On rare occasions, the unit will "wake up" and start attacking ground targets as it should if its health is brought to critical lows.
