Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.8 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

I suspect it's not a graphics bug. At least in Arch Linux the system hangs completely, i.e. keys don't work (not even Ctrl+Alt+Del), and also network stays down. The same happens without X and even with KMS disabled (kernel parameter radeon.kms=0).

resume also fails with a new 13.04 raring install (3.8 kernel).
Is it possible to provide any additional information that might help to fix this?

It's suspected to be a BIOS issue that is related to memory hoisting. Not sure if Lenovo has released any BIOS update to fix this issue but wouldn't hurt to check.

Hi,

From the boot messages, this machine has 4GB memory. Can you remove one memory module, make it 2GB only, and try S3 again?
Thank you.

unfortunately the update had no effect at all.

One more bit of information:

I opened the hood to confirm to comment #22.
The thing is, the 4GB are crammed on one single memory module ...
the second slot is empty.

Sorry for first adding such an unspecific question and than answering it by myself:

It might be interesting to note that at least for me (on a Linux Mint 16 KDE standard installation - using fglrx drivers) adding "nolapic" to the grub cmdline causes suspend to work. Could this help?

Lauri Kenttä (lauri-kentta) wrote :

I can confirm that adding "nolapic" to the kernel command line is a valid workaround (Arch Linux, kernel 3.13.4-1-ARCH).
