Bug Description

Gnome Shell Remix 12.10 feels much slower and more laggy (a lot of stuttering when resizing or moving windows) in comparison to Gnome Shell 3.4.1 under Ubuntu 12.04.
Same, properly working NVIDIA drivers (tested with Unigine Heaven Benchmark and other OpenGL apps).

Does this feel like Shell isn't responding to or otherwise dropping some keyboard and mouse input? In addition to a slightly lower effect framerate, I'm also experiencing a "stutteriness" that *seems* like either input is getting dropped or it's blocking on something.

I'm also on the nvidia proprietary driver.

Turning off "Sync to vblank" helps a little, but lag and framerate issue are still there. Also "Sync to vblank" locks my framerate in Unigine Heaven Benchmark to 38fps. Maybe there is something wrong with Gnome Shell refresh rate?

"Does this feel like Shell isn't responding to or otherwise dropping some keyboard and mouse input?"
Not sure if it's input related, but stuttering is pretty much all the time.

Low framerate is especially apparent when dragging windows in the activity view. Switching to a virtual terminal and back fixes this for me until the next time I log in.

Same here. I have noticed the same issues with other distro with gnome shell 3.6 and kernel 3.4

If you're using nVidia or ATI/AMD proprietary drivers, you do not have to turn off 'sync to vblank' or anything of the sort. It won't fix the issue.

What will, however, in my experience is exporting the "CLUTTER_VBLANK=none" environment variable to your .profile.

Seems that latest Nvidia beta drivers 310.14 fixed this issue for me.
With Sync to Vblank i 100% smooth now.

Anybody have delayed movement windows, like windows looks very heavy on dragging?

This appears to be fixed in both 304.64 and 310.14 (on my system atleast).

I'm using nvidia-experimental-310 310.14-0ubuntu1 from proposed and the problem is not fixed.

Hi.
I have the same issue on a gentoo system. Tried nvidia drivers 310 and 313 - the issue is not affected.
Switching virtual terminals resolves the issue for that login session.

What was the fix in Ubuntu for this issue?

Thanks in advance,
Gregory.

I have as well a king of "delayed windows movement" problem (on Gentoo). While anything else runs acceptable, moving windows is really sluggish.
