Bug Description

Backintime doesn't copy the actual files or folders when I use it as root, but does as a user. My settings:
Schedule: I tried all of them
Where to save backups: /media/external_hard_drive/root_back
Include folders: /
Exclude folders: /home/jeff *.backup*
All other options left at default settings.
If I click on the take image, it'll create an image, and the image folder exists named according to date/time but besides the file.info there isn't anything in the folder.

Sorry for the scant information the first time around I was pretty tired at the time. More info:
[root@zigathon ~]# uname -a
Linux zigathon 2.6.31.12-174.2.3.fc12.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Jan 18 19:52:07 UTC 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
[root@zigathon ~]# yum list backintime-gnome.noarch
Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit
Installed Packages
backintime-gnome.noarch 0.9.26-3.fc12 @fedora

The exact backup directory I am using for / is /media/extern/root_back
[root@zigathon root_back]# du -ch .
4.0K ./backintime/20100123-174542/backup
16K ./backintime/20100123-174542
20K ./backintime
24K .
24K total

[root@zigathon 20100123-174542]# pwd
/media/extern/root_back/backintime/20100123-174542
[root@zigathon 20100123-174542]# ls
backup fileinfo.bz2 info

[root@zigathon backup]# ls -al
total 8
drwxrwxr-x. 2 root root 4096 2010-01-23 02:45 .
drwxrwxr-x. 3 root root 4096 2010-01-23 17:45 ..

If any more information is wanted I'd be happy to produce it.

Maybe this is because you included root (snapshots.include_folders=/|0). Please try with another include directory.

Same problem here in archlinux with backintime 0.9.26.

@Dan: Yes I included root too. Removing it is no option and surely not the solution to this bug. Also as root user and with / included you should be allowed to copy a file.

I agree: root folder should be able to be included. It was just a remark to find where the problem came from.

See bug 455149 - maybe the fix works for this? Would you be able to test again with the latest beta version?
