Bug Description

Hi there!

I am having some problems with the touchpad when I wake up computer after suspend. It acts funny and start jumping until it goes to the top right corner more or less. The only way to have it operative again is opening the terminal and doing: "sudo modprobe -r psmouse & sudo modprobe psmouse".

This is happening after I updated to the kernel 4.10.0-40-generic

¿Any chance to have a look to this?

Thank you!

Hi, same problem here: after suspend the pointer goes to the upper right part of the screen and is not usable. Reload module psmouse solves the problem.

Similar configuration than reporter: ubuntu 16.04, kernel 4.10.0-40

I detected the problem ~ one month ago (oct-2017), but is was solved with kernel 4.10.0-38.

Unfortunately, the same problem appeared again with kernel 4.10.0-40.generic.

Thanks!

Hello,
Yes, we confirm this problem.
It was a problem with the kernel previous to 4.10.0-38.
With the kernel 4.10.38 it was solved, but it goes back with the kernel 4.10.0-40.
Thanks

Same here 4.10.0-40-generic

In case it helps, xinput identifies the trackpad "ImExPS/2 Generic Explorer Mouse" but when resumes from suspension the malfunctioning trackpad is identified as "TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint". If I reload psmouse, as suggested, it gets back to "ImExPS/2" and works properly most times. But if too many events arrive from the trackball at some point X get messy, and even if you reload psmouse X do not respond to keyboard or mouse events and the screen freezes.

Hi!

The problem is that after resume the protocol of touchpad is removed, file:
/sys/bus/serio/devices/serio1/protocol

If you boot the system loading the kernel with parameter
psmouse.proto=exps
after suspend it nor is removed.

Hello,

Tested with Arch Linux (Manjaro XFCE) with kernel 4.9.74-2 & 4.14.12-1 and the bug persist. Using the grub tweak, solves it.

This still happens with Ubuntu 17.10 and kernel `4.13.0-30-generic`.

Hi there,

I would like to add that the patch suggested by slimbook works flawlesly to me. It is in Spanish, but you can use google translate to easily follow the instructions.

Please feel free to open a new bug report if you're still experiencing this on a newer release (Bionic 18.04.3 / Disco 19.04)
Thanks!
