First: identify various easy fixes that would make the upload process more intuitive, less confusing, and more streamlined. Second: implement it!

This is a task which has many subtasks. Tracey is currently (March 10, 2009) improving the input pages for uploading, with some back-end changes as well as front-end UI, which I have been helping with. This task will be marked "completed" after all the associated subtasks are done.

Since this is basically working, and largely in Tracey's hands, I'm calling this task done as far as my work on it. If some new Upload-related UI issues comes up that I need to help with, I'll make a new task for that.
