2009-07-20 14:09:46 David Siegel description More often than not, when a user double clicks an archive will then proceed to extract all the files from it. The file-roller application should automatically extract the file contents to the current directory. A new directory with the archive's filename should be created as well, for example double clicking "documents_and_images.zip" would extract the archive contents to "./documents_and_images/" If the user wants to selectively extract files from the archive he should be let to do so by right clicking the archive and choosing "Open with Archive Manager...". More often than not, when a user double clicks an archive will then proceed to extract all the files from it. The former function is relatively advanced compared to the latter, so the design suggestion is to place the advanced function -- opening the archive for browsing in File Roller -- in the contextual menu as "Extract..." and make the simple function -- extracting the archive in place -- the default action on double-click. Advanced users who wish to perform actions beyond simple extraction will discover and use "Extract..." in the contextual menu, while less advanced users can simply double-click to activate the default action of archive extraction.
