canon mp-240 printer drivers having problems installing

Bug Description
Canon provides linux drivers for its mp-240 printer/scanner. there are various people on the internet who have been successful in installing and using their printer. However, I have attempted to install in just the same fashion as they have and the ubuntu software center says it has problems with the apt-daemon. I am using 10.10 on a 32 bit machine, the other users installed the drivers on older versions of ubuntu.
