There seems to be a programming error in aptdaemon, the software that allows you to install/remove software and to perform other package management related tasks.

I have just installed Ubuntu 10.10 running in Windows 7. Everything OK except I cannot connect my Canon Pixma MP540 printer/scanner
The scanner works OK using "Simple Scan" but I am unable to install the downloaded .deb files down loaded from Canon. in order that I can get the printer to work as well!!
I have searched the net for help but am totally confused!!
