Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-aiptek

I am running Jaunty Jackalope Beta (currently within a VirtaulBox machine).

When I attempt to install the xserver-xorg-input-aiptek package using Synaptic, I first see a long list of packages to be removed, starting with ubuntu-desktop and xorg itself, followed by a long list of xserver components.

If I risk continuing past this worrying list, Synaptic reports the error

"xserver-xorg-input-aiptek:
 Depends: xserver-xorg-core but it is not going to be installed"

This problem was also present in an earlier alpa release of Jaunty installed directly rather than in a virtual machine.

Only term.log appears to exist on the system, in /var/log/apt

I attach a copy, although it doesn't appear to contain any references to "aiptek".

Jon, I notice you've now tagged this with "packaging", which I think is correct. (The program itself installed and worked fine on Intrepid.)

The dependencies reported by Synaptic include removing xserver-xorg and replacing it with xserver-xorg-core, which apparently isn't happening. Possibly a matter of exact version numbers, as xserver-xorg-core appears to be in the repository (and indeed installed already).

I also notice that the version provided is xserver-xorg-aiptek1:1.1.1-1build1 (jaunty) but the Launchpad overview at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-aiptek gives the version as xserver-....build2 so a slight regression there.

This bug was fixed in the package xserver-xorg-input-aiptek - 1:1.1.1-1ubuntu1

---------------
xserver-xorg-input-aiptek (1:1.1.1-1ubuntu1) jaunty; urgency=low

  * debian/control
    - add quilt to build-depends
    - changed Maintainer-field according to ubuntu policy
  * debian/patches
    - add 01_fix_build_xserver16.patch (LP: #352083)
      This one fixes the FTBFS since with the xserver1.6 some ABI-changes
      were made. Patch taken from upstream.
  * debian/rules
    - Add quilt patch system
  * This also corrects the uninstallability of the package. (LP: #351076)

I can confirm that the package is now installable on Jaunty beta.

Thanks to all involved for fixing this very fast. As a result I can now consider moving one of my workstations to Jaunty beta for further testing soon.
