Bug Description

Binary package hint: synaptic

I'm running amd64 Ubuntu. I have an i386 deb package "linuxqq" downloaded from the vendor. Since "Gdebi" does not accept packages of the wrong architecture, I used the command line "dpkg -i --force-architecture [package].deb" to install it. The problem is that it does not show up in Synaptic as "local or obsolete packages". Its presence in the system can only be shown by the "dpkg -l" command.

Confirming, this also affects i386 packages being installed in LPIA architectures (mostly netbooks right now).

This is a problem with APT (which synaptic uses internally). See bug #317929.

This is still present in Maverick.

I did a $ sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture adobeair.deb and it does not show in Synaptic etc. This means all Air applications are listed as having "broken" dependencies.

This is a multi-arch feature request. multi-arch support has been added in natty.
